What is HEIC Format?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is an image format developed by MPEG and first introduced by Apple in iOS 11 (2017). It uses the HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) compression standard, allowing it to store images with roughly half the file size of equivalent JPG images while maintaining comparable — often superior — image quality.
Starting with the iPhone 7, Apple made HEIC the default photo format on iPhones and iPads. While this saves storage space on your device, it creates compatibility issues when sharing photos with Windows PCs, Android devices, or uploading to certain websites and platforms that don't support the HEIC format.
